Since December of 2005, we have helped to put in four deep wells in needy villages and communities. Pictured to the right are the wells at Gallette Chambon, Joineau, and Beudet. A new deep well has also gone in at Cazeau for the school and church. Words cannot describe how important clean water is for good health and well being. Today, thousands of people are benefitting from the generosity of those who so graciously have given. The cost to put in a new well is $4,500. Your gifts of any size will be used to provide clean water. Continue here to see how you can give for deep wells in Haiti. Scroll down further for more pictures of wells and how they are put in. |

Drilling By Hand |

Often, modern equipent is not available in Haiti, so we have had to use crews of Haitian well drillers to put in wells. Although they work by hand, they are able to go to depths of 80 to 100 feet to find the best water available. A crew of men fashion links of drilling shafts that are designed to go on a rig, and turn the shafts using large pipe wrenches. Water is pumped down the shafts to loosen rocks and dirt. When the ground becomes too rocky to pass a drilling shaft, the crew of men have to dig by hand. A shaft is dug into the ground. Rocks and debris are removed one bucket at a time as workers take turns working in the dark column of earth. Even though water can be found at shallower depths, the well drillers continue until the freshest water possible is reached. Once the well is completed, the people of the village readily come to pump water to carry back home. The blessing of clean water is indescribable. The cost to put in a new well is $4,500. Your gift of any size will be used to provide clean water to a needy village or community. More wells are still needed. Continue here to see how you can give for deep wells in Haiti. |
