Questions People Ask About Sponsorship

Here are some common questions people ask about sponsoring a child. These will help you as you consider helping a boy or girl through Mission To Haiti.

How does my Sponsorship help a needy child?

Your sponsored child will have the opportunity to attend school. Without help, many children of poor families never get to attend school.

Your child will have an opportunity to receive meals at school. Children are given medical checkups as needed. The quality of life is greatly improved for the sponsored child.

All of the schools we support are Christian schools. Children begin by attending classes. Soon the children and their families are invited to attend the local church. Here, children and their families hear the Gospel and have the opportunity to accept Christ.

How much of my sponsorship support goes to my child?

Approximately 80% of your sponsorship payment is used for your child support. The remaining 20% is used to oversee the program.

May I write to my sponsored child?

Yes, you may write your sponsored child and send photographs of your family. We encourage sponsored children to answer the letters they received from their sponsor. Children will send letters and photographs to their sponsors as well.

May I send a gift to my sponsored child?

Yes, you may send a gift to your sponsored child. Small gifts can be delivered right away. Larger gifts might have to be shipped and will take longer. A cash gift of $10 to $20 is ideal for the family and will help greatly.

How long does Sponsorship last?

Haitian children typically begin school between 5 and 6 years old. Some children do not have the opportunity to begin school until they are older. Many sponsors continue to support their children until they finish school. A bond is established between a sponsor and a child that will last a lifetime.

If you can only sponsor for a year or two, your support is very important because it helps your child get started in school.

What happens if my child leaves the Sponsorship Program?

From time to time, a child will not be able to continue in the sponsorship program. If your child moves from the community or finishes school, we will ask you to consider sponsoring another child. This will give a new child the opportunity to attend school.

We encourage you to get to know your sponsored child and the family. It is important that you pray for your sponsored child. Child Sponsorship is one of the most important things we can do to help the Haitian people. Thank you for your sponsorship. Top
