Questions People Ask About Sponsorship

How does Sponsorship affect the life of a needy child?

Listed here are some commonly asked questions people ask about sponsoring a child. These will help you as you consider helping a boy or girl through Mission To Haiti.

Sponsorship allows a needy child to attend school and stay in school for as long as he or she is able. Without help, many children of poor families are forced to drop out of school prematurely.

Every child receives Christian training in the classroom as well as in Sunday School, Bible study or church. Children have the opportunity to learn about Jesus and to grow in their faith.

Sponsorship also removes barriers to a child’s development by providing health care, high protein meals, clothing and other support as needed.

By providing a host of opportunities, and easing a child’s current poverty, a lasting change can occur in a needy child’s life. Top

How long should a Sponsorship last?

Haitian children typically enter school between 5 and 6 years old. They continue for as long as they are able. Most sponsors support a child for their entire time in school. Others support a child for one or two years. Either approach is valuable and helpful. Top

What happens when a child leaves the Sponsorship Program?

From time to time, a child is not able to continue in the program. For example, if a child moves from the area with his family, a new child is assigned to the sponsor. If a child graduates from school, he or she will be replaced with a another child also.

This opens an opportunity for a new child to enter the program. Sponsors are encouraged to continue their support through their new sponsored child. Top

What does the Sponsorship Program offer the sponsor?

Sponsorship gives people the opportunity to learn about Haitian children and to be involved in the process of sharing over a span of time.

Sponsoring a child allows for two-way communication. Letters and photographs are exchanged which, over time, can create a bond of love and appreciation.

Many sponsors feel that because they give regularly to a child in need, and pray and communicate with that child, their own children are learning what it means to put their faith into practice. Top

How often should I write my sponsored child?

You may write as often as you wish. Some sponsors write once or twice a year, while others write more often. Sponsored children write their sponsors at least once a year. Top

Can I visit my sponsored child?

What happens if a sponsor misses a support payment?
