Mission To Haiti supports the work of eleven churches in Haiti. All of these churches have Christian schools where we help needy children receive an education. More than 4000 children attend these schools. Education stands at the forefront of Haiti's progress, and we are honored to help lead the way.
Pastor Luc Altino oversees about half of these churches which span from the inner city to the rural provinces of Haiti. Each summer, these churches come together for a time of spiritual renewal and to encourage one another in their work for the Lord.
Bill, Sr. was the main conference speaker, preaching twice a day. Interpreting for him was Yvon Pierre. Yvon preached with equal fervor, bringing the messages alive in Creole for those who attended the conference.
Pastor Luc, who led the meeting, asked that the theme be taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14. With all the difficulties that Haiti is experiencing presently, the key emphasis of the meeting was, Lord, Heal Our Land. The services began Thursday morning with 200 in attendance. Ones like Faustin Joseph from the Bonnette church added to the worship service by accompanying the congregation with his guitar.
The meetings were filled young children from the different villages. They became an integral part of the worship and spiritual awakening. For many children, their parents are the first generation of Christians in their family. They have the opportunity to perpetuate those spiritual roots by trusting in Christ, and continuing in the Faith.
Choirs from four churches prepared specials for the evening sessions. By Sunday, the crowd had grown to more than 1000. The four choirs, adorned in beautiful robes, inspired everyone with their up-lifting hymns of faith.
Sunday morning was the final service in the conference. It happened that Tropical Storm Ernesto was passing overhead that morning, however, the pounding rain and howling wind had little impact on everyones spirits. Rain drops dripped from the creases in the roofing, but no one even seemed to notice.
The service ended with the taking of Lord's Supper. This spiritual high seemed to be a wonderful time to be reminded of our Lord's death, burial, and resurrection. Everyone who attended the meetings returned home with renewed hope. Your prayers and gracious support encourage these devoted saints to keep their faith strong in these difficult times.
While Bill, Sr. was preaching at the daytime sessions, Kevin McGill was evaluating and repairing the camp's electrical system. Kevin was the one who installed the two large generators that now run the entire mission camp. His week in Haiti gleaned a lot. He was able to address the problem of tripping breakers from the summer teams, and he helped to map out a plan for the future of the camp's electrical needs.
As the ministry expands, our capacity to power these facilities is reaching its peak. As we consider new ministries like the new clinic and expanded sponsorship facilities, we will need to enlarge our power capacity.
Thank you for your prayers and gracious support.
